LUCKNOW Apart from the financial assistance from the state government, the terracotta artisans based in the villages of Gorakhpur will get easy loans from Punjab & Sind Bank to expand their business.
The bank has drawn up an action plan to grant easy loans to 5,000 artisans and the objective is to grant loans of ₹25 crore. The bank will work closely with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) department, a state government spokesperson said.
A delegation of Punjab & Sind Bank officers including Executive Director Ramjas Yadav, Deputy Managing Director Vinay Khandelwal, Managing Directors Vinay Kumar Ojha and Anchal Srivastava met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chief Secretary (MSME) Navneet Sehgal to discuss the plan to help the terracotta artisans of Gorakhpur.
The CM told the bank officers about the specialty of Gorakhpur terracotta handicrafts. After its inclusion in the “One District, One Product” (ODOP) scheme, terracotta is gaining ground in the country as well as globally. “With the support of the ODOP, there is such a demand for clay products that artisans are busy keeping to schedules to fulfill orders. Terracotta is also increasing large-scale employment in the region,” he said.
ACS (MSME) Navneet Sehgal told the bank’s delegation that, working on the self-reliance mantra of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the ODOP program plays an important role in economic progress and creation jobs by promoting a specific craft or product. in each district of the UP. “A vision of the Chief Minister, ODOP provides autonomy to qualified people in the state,” he added.
Artisans in Gorakhpur manufacture about 1000 types of products and the demand for them is huge. Terracotta also has the GI (Geographical Indication) label. “The Punjab & Sind Bank project to provide loans to terracotta artisans would go a long way in helping artisans take their business to new heights,” he said.
