CM will grant bank loans worth Rs 200 cr

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will interact directly with women in self-help groups on Friday. About 300 female members of the group from different districts of the state will reach Bhopal under this program which will be held at the Chief Minister’s residence. Chief Minister Chouhan will also distribute bank loans worth around Rs 200 crore to self-help groups. Self-help group members will also be connected virtually from all gram panchayats. The program will be broadcast live through Doordarshan, regional channels and social media.

The social and economic empowerment of poor women in rural areas is done by connecting them with self-help groups under the State Mission for Rural Livelihoods. About 3 lakh 84,000 self-help groups have been formed in 45,000 villages in the state, to which about 43 lakh families are connected. Of these, about 16 lakh 79,000 families have been linked to agriculture and about 6 lakh 19,000 families to other activities.

In the recently concluded Panchayat elections, around 17,000 members of these self-help groups were elected to the positions of Panch, Sarpanch, Janpad and Zilla Panchayat members. Of these, 1907 Sarpanch, 429 Up Sarpanch, 46 Zilla Panchayat members, 381 Janpad members and 14 thousand 378 Panchs were created. For the first time, such a significant participation of self-help groups was seen in Panchayati Raj institutions.
