Barclays has bolstered its investment bank with a senior trader from Nomura to lead its coverage of financial institutions in the UK.
Ed Skilton is expected to join the British lender as global co-head of its Insurance Financial Institutions Group and Head of Financial Institutions Group for the UK, the bank said in a statement.
Skilton started working at Lehman Brothers in 2001 and was one of dozens of dealmakers to switch to Nomura when the Japanese bank took over Lehman’s European business after it collapsed in the 2008 financial crisis.

At both banks, Skilton has more than two decades of experience and joins Barclays as the bank seeks to expand its ranks of senior dealmakers.
However, there have been departures from its financial institutions group over the past year. Darren McKay, his co-head of the financial institutions group for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, left in August to join specialist boutique FT Partners. Ahsan Raza also left the team last year to join the Calastone investment fund dealing network as chief financial officer.
Barclays has appointed Enrique Piñel to lead its group of financial institutions in the Emea region following McKay’s departure.
